Preparing for the Open-Ended Working Group on Conventional Ammunition
WHAT: The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is pleased to invite you to two webinars to promote knowledge and facilitate dialogue on key issues and processes pertaining to the safe and secure management of conventional ammunition. The webinars are designed to support preparations for the Open-Ended Working Group on Conventional Ammunition in 2022 and stimulate thinking and exchange ideas on substantive issues. These two virtual events will consist of short expert briefings followed by interactive discussion.

Day 1: The United Nations Process on Conventional Ammunition, April 20th, 2022
Brief 1 - History of the ammunition process under UN auspices
Brief 2 - Where are we? A conventional ammunition gap analysis
Brief 3 - The work of the Group of Governmental Experts 2020-2021
Followed by Q&A

Day 2: Ammunition Management Experiences from the Ground, April 21st, 2022
Brief 1 - Lessons learned from industry on safety and security
Brief 2 - Effective responses to unplanned explosions at munitions sites
Brief 3 – Unpacking ammunition diversion
Brief 4 - Gender mainstreaming of the life-cycle management of ammunition
Followed by Q&A
